Why just the really bad sinners? If we are to really follow the bible like in purer times, we should stone all apostates, homosexuals, children who talk back to us and people who gather sticks on the sabbath.

I only disagree with one point you made... You may want to learn more about mind control. It can be much more subtle than you think, take on many forms, and be called many different things.
a few months ago, the jws came knocking on my door (see thread).. this discussion continued and the next time she brought a man along with her.
i told them that i'd study with them if they could prove to me god exists and the bible was his book.
for our next visit, only the man showed up.
I'd say you did some good. Especially since you had some time between discussions for everything to sink in. You can't expect him to suddenly give up a lifetime's worth of beliefs, but a seed had to have been planted.
ive asked a few jws and other believers why god never gave technology to his people but no one has been able to answer this.

He didn't have the skill to remove our useless organs like the appendix. He didn't give us the ability to produce vitamin C from food, even though we need it. He made us dependent on direct sunlight for vitamin D to function properly, even though in most of the world doesn't have enough exposure year round.
He gave us extra teeth, which wouldn't come in till later and would most likely KILL us when they grow in crooked and sideways before the days of dentistry. Actually in the days before dentistry our teeth were the cause of many deaths.

anyone who believes in the god of the 'holy bible' (or any other god for that matter) should be able to explain the following logically-.
if god is love, why would he kill (by the sword, implying a terrifying and painful death) children, women, etc for the wrongs and 'sins' of others?.
if god is perfect, why did he see fit to destroy en entire prehistoric world (dinosaurs) when there was no sin to blame?.
While these very points were instrumental in my move to atheism/secularism, your statement is a bit flawed... It does not prove god is not real, but it does prove that the idea of the 'god of love' whose every action is motivated by love is not real. In the bible, the devil is a pussycat compared to YHVH.
I would also argue your last point, if only in the way you worded it. You said, " why does God INSIST on letting this evil subsist on and on and on, creating more pain and suffering each day?" Are you saying the world's evil is getting worse, creating more human suffering as a result? You may want to reconsider your position on that... "Evil" isn't to blame for nearly as many problems as the WT would have us believe. As a whole, humanity's suffering decreases a little everyday if anything.

Not necessarily.. I did lots of FS in Mexico, none of us wore a tie. The only preachers who wear ties there are Mormons.

Do you really believe that Joseph Smith received a divine revelation? Don't you think it's convenient that he lost the golden tablets as soon as someone asked to see them? Don't you wonder why the Book of Mormon is written in ye olde English even though it was written in the 19th century? Does Jesus not speak modern English? How do you deal with the cognitive dissonance these issues must present? I'm not comparing Mormonism to JWism or Christianity.
I'm just trying to grasp how you can participate on this forum, reading about all of these problems not only with the JWs but with faith in general without seeing the problems within your own church?
